Order: Aves (Birds)
Family: Psittacidae
Macaws are native to South America. They are magnificent birds with large, strong, curved beaks designed to crush nuts and seeds. Macaws have strong, agile toes that they use like hands to grasp things. They are well known for their bright, bold colors which allow them to blend in well in the rain forest.
Macaws are great at de-constructing almost anything. They need very large cages that can be heavily (hahaha!!!) secured. Macaws need lots of toys for chewing, manipulating, and foraging. They are very large birds that generally love attention, enjoy being cuddled and played with, and make wonderful companions.
