LINNEOLATED or BARRED PARAKEET
Bolborhynchus lineola
Habitat is Mexico to Panama.
Linnies make fabulous pets for most people in a variety of situations. They are very affectionate , with a quiet tender personality , a tiny voice capable of a few sweet words, and their big dark soulful eyes stare at you unblinkingly . They are extremely playful and should be housed in pairs to achieve their full potential. If kept in pairs, they must be handled frequently and lovingly to keep their pet quality. A single bird must be loved and entertained to be happy. The largest
cages, 30 minimum, should be filled with different size and different material
perches, swings and
toys. Linnies are not BORING; they will entertain you with their preening, activity and playfulness.
Just in case you think birds have no feelings, let me tell you about an experience I recently had.
I am a linnie breeder and unfortunately one of my linnies lost her mate. For three days, she cried, called and went off her food. I found another male which called to her from the carrier as I entered the breeding room. When I placed him in the cage, she ran up to him and greeted him. So, one lonely male and one bereaved widow are starting life together.
