Eclectus Parrot
Origin: Australia, Indonesia
The Eclectus parrot is the only parrot species where the sexes are color dimorphic. Eclectus males are green with red and blue feathers under the wing. The beak is the color of candy corn. Eclectus females are red with a lavender or purple breast. The beak is Johnny Cash black.
Not only are the males and females different colors, but they also have very different personalities.
The males like to be near their people and will climb up and down stairs to find them. They are content to sit on a
perch
next to their owner’s favorite chair and watch TV. And the males just seem to like everybody. The females want lots of attention and cuddling from the people they like. (They don’t like just ANYone!)
Eclectus parrots are generally quiet birds. But their warning call is VERY loud. These birds have the potential to be very good talkers.
Eclectus parrots like small toys and different textures. They love to shred and forage for food.
